Amsterdam

Our Ship Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

Editor's note: This ship is no longer part of the Holland America fleet.

Holland America Line’s Amsterdam is a midsize ship designed for just under 1,400 passengers. Onboard, the aesthetic is refined, and the ship is beautifully decorated with artwork and antiques that reflect the line's long history. The vessel sails long-distance itineraries, such as loops through the South Pacific and around-the-world cruises.

What We Love

All-Weather Deck: As the Amsterdam travels the globe in all sorts of climate conditions, the retractable dome over the Lido Deck allows for outdoor living on warm days and protection from the wind and cold when the temperatures drop.

Promenade Decks: Traditional lives on with wide, teak promenades that permit jogging, as well as providing ample room for lounging in a deck chair with a good book.

Best Known For

Art Collection: With so much early Dutch exploration and Holland America’s long history, it's fun to walk around the ship and take in the art works, including some lovely maritime paintings by Stephen Card that depict earlier ships.

Far-Reaching Itineraries: The Amsterdam may be found on the west coast of North and South America, in the South Pacific via the Hawaiian Islands, and globetrotting to Asia and Australia.

Who It's Best For

Serious Cruisers Seeking Long Itineraries: Those with time on their hands enjoy the multiweek itineraries, which are even longer on grand voyages and the world cruise.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

You'll Find a Sedate Atmosphere: While sister ship Rotterdam is often based in Europe and attracts a more international passenger list, the Amsterdam is populated by older Americans.
