Asia Class

Viking River Cruises, Asia Class, Viking Mandalay, waiter A Waiter on the Viking Mandalay Viking River Cruises

Accommodating just 56 guests apiece, Viking River Cruises' two Mandalay-class ships, Viking Mandalay and Viking Mekong, deliver intimate cruise experiences along Myanmar’s Irrawaddy River and the Mekong River in Vietnam and Cambodia. Designed with a look and feel unlike any other Viking vessel afloat — more British colonial than Scandinavian — both Mandalay-class ships nonetheless feature touches that the line's guests have come to expect, such as L’Occitane bath products and walking tours ashore.

What We Love

Cozy Staterooms: Although they’re relatively small (168 square feet), the 28 identical staterooms on the Mandalay-class vessels are delightful, showcasing both slatted wood panels and glass French doors that open onto a wraparound teak promenade deck.

Open-Air Sun Deck: Even if you don’t like the heat, the sundecks on both Viking Mandalay and Viking Mekong are kept at a comfortable temperature thanks to an overhead canopy and ceiling-mounted fans. This deck is each ship's main social hub — everything from cocktails to lectures happens here, among the sights and sounds of some of Asia's most fascinating locales.

Best Known For

Authentic Cuisine: Food on board these vessels caters to North American and European palates, yet plenty of authentic Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Burmese dishes are available at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Don’t miss out on the soups — they’re flavorful, fragrant, and surprisingly good.

Who It's Best For

Adventurous Travelers Looking for Genuine Culture: Mystical and magical are the best words to describe Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam and their ancient, colonial, and contemporary treasures. Viking Mandalay and Viking Mekong are staffed predominantly by friendly crew members who hail from these three countries, and they’re proud to show off their native lands to guests.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

The Ships Are Not Actually Owned by Viking: Although Viking Mandalay and Viking Mekong are branded under Viking River Cruises, they are charter vessels actually owned by a third-party — Pandaw Cruises — and otherwise go by the names Indochina Pandaw and Tonle Pandaw.
