Amadeus Princess, built in 2006, is one of the older ships in this Austrian fleet, with a traditional river vessel design that's boxy but efficient. You'll also find a nice mix of low-key entertainment options, such as live music performances and (bilingual) lectures, standard on river voyages.
What We Love
Regional Cuisine: The German food is a standout here, with five-course dinners paired with regional wines and an elaborate lunch buffet with sausages, sauerkraut, and a whole roasted pig.
Amadeus Club: The lounge area at the back of the ship has cushioned chairs and small tables perfect for settling in for a little reading or to play games. There's also tea and coffee service and two computer terminals for staying connected.
Sun Deck Extras: The top level on Amadeus Princess features the expected comfy loungers to plop down and take in the fresh air, sunshine, and scenery. You'll also find a hot tub, small putting green, marked walking path, and giant chess set for passing the time between ports.
Best Known For
Intimate Size: With only 160 passengers and 40 crew members, you quickly get to know everyone on board. That includes the captain, who often joins activities to give informational talks or tours of the wheelhouse.
Classic Rivers: Amadeus Princess makes journeys along the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, visiting such cities as Amsterdam, Cologne, and Budapest, and the many historic towns in between.

Who It's Best For
A La Carte Cruisers: While many river cruises include all shore excursions and activities in the cost, Amadeus offers the option to book just the trips you want to do with the group.
Don't Say We Didn't Warn You
This Isn't Kids' Stuff: Although children are welcome on board, you rarely see families with young ones on this ship. Your fellow passengers will be 55-plus and traveling as couples or often as members of a charter group.
You Won't Find Tables for Two: The Panorama Restaurant is set with tables for multiple couples, so don't expect an intimate dinner with just your significant other.
