Norwegian Getaway Review

Our Ship Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

When Norwegian Getaway debuted in 2014 as the second Breakaway-Class ship, it expanded on the action-oriented vibe of its New York-centric sister ship, Norwegian Breakaway, and added a tropical twist. In addition to lots of activities, a big casino, and a huge array of clubs, bars, and eateries, you’ll enjoy nods to Miami that include an opportunity to salsa dance to a Latin trio in the retro-chic Tropicana dining room.

What We Love

Burn the Floor: It's hard not to feel your heart racing during this dazzling 45-minute performance that showcases a nonstop whirlwind of international dance styles — from the sultry Salsa and Rumba to the energetic Lindy and Charleston. The talented pros are also on hand to offer dance classes throughout the cruise.

Sugarcane Mojito Bar: In this metallic palm trees-lined hot spot, you can choose from a variety of minty cocktails, including a jalapeno cucumber mojito. Snag a seat outdoors and admire the views from The Waterfront, Norwegian Getaway's ocean-view promenade.

Musical Entertainment & Comedy: Fans of rock 'n roll, R&B, and country can hear a tribute to all three in a production of the Tony Award-winning musical "Million Dollar Quartet," featuring the music of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins. Prefer to watch dueling pianos jam out to hits of the '70s, '80s, and '90s? Then head for Howl at the Moon. Other diversions include stand-up by Levity Entertainment Group comics in Headliners Comedy Club and a chance to win cash prizes in a live-action "Deal or No Deal" game show.

Best Known For

Multiple Dining Concepts: With 18 different restaurant venues onboard — eight of them included in the cruise fare — there’s always something to satisfy your cravings. Pub classics such as burgers and fish ‘n chips are available 24/7 in O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill, while noodles and wok-fried specialties can be savored for free in Shanghai’s Noodle Bar. Among the extra-cost specialty restaurants, yummy options include lobster rolls and crispy fried chicken at American Diner, Japanese favorites at both Wasabi Sushi Bar and Teppanyaki and French and Italian classics at Le Bistro and La Cucina.

Outdoor Thrills: Challenge your pals on racing slides or do a feet-first plunge on drop slides at the Aqua Park. You can also put on a harness and hit the ropes course, where challenges include walking The Plank, which stretches eight feet off the side of the ship.

A Wide Array of Stateroom Options: From snug inside Studios and terrific Solo Balcony cabins designed to accommodate solo travelers without an added single supplement to spacious Deluxe Owner’s Suites in The Haven offering privacy and exclusive amenities, Norwegian Getaway has staterooms that appeal to all ages and group configurations. Families can opt for Inside, Oceanview, and Balcony cabins, sleeping up to four people, or book adjoining Balcony cabins for added space.

Who It's Best For

Active Types: Couples and singles, 20-somethings to seniors, who like their cruise vacation casual and action-packed, enjoy fun in the sun, and don't mind being part of a crowd will be pleased with their experience.

Families: Kids are well entertained in the big Splash Academy play area, and teens get their own lounge.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Watch Your Spending: Before you indulge at the casino or in the shops, you'll want to pay attention to how the extra fees for a la carte specialty restaurants, drinks, and spa treatments add up.
