Silver Spirit Review

Our Ship Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

Silversea's expertise is in ultra-luxury cruising, which is exactly what you’ll experience on Silver Spirit. The then 540-guest ship was the line’s largest when it launched in 2009, but it has since been surpassed by its newer Muse- and Nova-class siblings. Still, Silver Spirit is much smaller than most ocean ships, and its intimate ambiance, combined with Silversea’s stellar service and exceptional cuisine, creates a sense of grandeur.

All cabins have marble bathrooms with spacious showers (top suites also have deep soaking tubs), continuously refreshed minibars, and soft sheets and duvets. White-gloved butlers are at your service, and elegant eateries include the jazz-themed supper-club-style venue Silver Note. A 2018 refurbishment lengthened the ship by 49 feet and added extra suites that upped the guest capacity from its original 540 to 608. The refit also enlarged the pool deck, renovated La Terrazza, and added restaurants Spaccanapoli, Atlantide, and Indochine, all of which had been introduced in 2017 on Silver Muse.

What We Love

Luxe Staterooms: Indulgent touches are everywhere in your suite. Expect high-thread-count linens and a pillow menu, Bulgari toiletries, afternoon canapés, and decadent chocolates at turndown.

Intimate Atmosphere: The vibe on board is lively and congenial, though the ship never feels crowded, even when fully booked.

Best Known For

Extraordinary Service: You’ll also have a dedicated butler who will present you with a choice of bath amenities, take your dinner reservations, and serve pre-dinner Champagne or morning croissants and coffee right in your stateroom.

Fine Food: You’ll never run out of options on Silver Spirit, which is home to eight dining venues. There’s fresh-made pastas (from trenette to ravioli to fusilli) at the Slow Food-inspired La Terrazza and Naples-style pizza at Spaccanapoli, as well as elevated seafood at Atlantide and flavorful Asian specialties at Seishin and Indochine. If you enjoy French fine dining, you can reserve a table at La Dame for an extra fee.

Who It's Best For

Cultured Cruisers: Silver Spirit’s itineraries take it around the world, from classic cruise locales like the Caribbean and the Mediterranean to more far-flung ports in Africa, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea.

Couples: The small-ship atmosphere — and plenty of date-night dinner venues — set the scene for romance. There are no kids programs on board, meaning your fellow cruisers are likely to be adults looking for together time, as well.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Small-Scale Entertainment: Mega ships tout Broadway-style productions in huge theaters with polished performers. Don’t expect any of that here. The stage in the Venetian Lounge is small, hosting classical music, intimate cabaret acts, and educational lectures.
