Silver Wind Review

Our Ship Review
Deal Expert / Travel Blogger

While Silver Wind is the second oldest ship in Silversea’s fleet, having made her debut in 1995 in the wake of sister ship Silver Cloud’s 1994 launch, refurbishments in 2018 and 2021 have transformed into a versatile and adaptable 274-guest vessel with a strengthened ice-class hull. That means this elegant ship, with recently refreshed interior décor and a range of dining venues, offers itineraries that include expedition-style journeys in Antarctica and the Arctic to hemisphere-spanning Grand Voyages lasting more than four months.

What We Love

Library with a View: Designed to resemble the Observation Lounge aboard Silversea’s Silver Spirit, the intimate, book-clad Observation Library is located on the top deck and offers up some of the best forward-facing views aboard Silver Wind — and few guests ever find it.

Luxury Suites: Although she’s a veteran of three at sea, you’d never know it: Silver Wind's lavishly appointed suites still sparkle like new and benefit from butler service, an extensive pillow menu, and seriously luxurious linens.

Best Known For

Intimate Ambience: Silver Wind is one of the most intimate ships at sea, with a guest-to-crew ratio of nearly one-to-one. As luxury ships continue to grow in size and passenger count, this vessel still offers that most indulgent of commodities: plenty of space to call your own.

Fine Dining: With four of Silversea’s fleetwide restaurants on board, Silver Wind can satisfy all appetites with expertly prepared dishes that range from regionally-inspired specialties in The Restaurant (the main dining room) to authentic Italian recipes in La Terrazza (which also serves buffet-style breakfast and lunch). The Grill offers versatility, serving rotisserie-style items, burgers, and salads by day and cook-it-yourself lava-stone preparations at dinner. For an extra fee, you can also experience a six-course wine-paired menu at the intimate and bespoke La Dame.

Who It's Best For

Luxury Lovers with an Adventurous Streak: Silver Wind spends most of the year cruising polar regions and other remote and adventure-centric locales such as Patagonia and Iceland, so guests who book this ship should be prepared for excursions by Zodiac (or even kayak). But afterward, the pampering onboard is just as indulgent as on Silversea’s newer ships, with facials and massages available in the Zagara Beauty Spa, craft cocktails in the Dolce Vita Bar, and cognac and cigars in Connoisseurs Corner — just on a smaller, more intimate scale.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Nights are Pretty Sedate: While there are three bars and a Show Lounge offering small-scale production shows and solo performances, there’s no casino, and the vibe after 6:00 pm can be rather subdued.
