Do I need travel insurance for my cruise?by Fran Golden | August 06, 2016
What are you buying? Most policies sold by cruise lines and travel agencies bundle coverage for trip delay and cancellation, baggage protection, medical expenses, and evacuation. Some policies come with accidental death and dismemberment insurance as well. What is particularly valuable to cruisers is disruption insurance, which covers your out-of-pocket expenses if, say, your flight gets canceled or your cruise ship has a mechanical breakdown.
All of that may be more than you need. Review your homeowner's policy in terms of theft coverage, as well as your health and life insurance plans, to see what emergencies are covered (such as medical evacuation). Also, some credit cards provide coverage for both travel cancellations and theft.
