Vegan cruisers have a great new option at sea now that Oceania Cruises has added new vegan menus on all six ships in their fleet.
The line — known for their sophisticated, intimate vessels — now offers separate vegan menus all day long in the main dining rooms with dishes that exclude meat, eggs, and dairy. These menus feature more than 250 plant-based options, including vanilla waffles with berries (shown above) for breakfast as well as Tuscan-style bean soup followed by vegan ricotta pie for lunch. Choices on the five-course dinner menu includes quinoa salad, vegetable tartare, red vegan curry, and a vegan strawberry shortbread for dessert.
While many cruise lines offer gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options on request, SeaDream is the only other line to offer vegan dishes on the menu at every meal in the main dining room, having launched their “raw food” menu options in 2012.
In addition, Oceania has also added cold-pressed raw juice and vegan smoothie bars to the pool decks of Marina and Riviera. Juice bars are becoming popular at sea: Disney Cruise Line offers Senses Juice Bar on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy and Norwegian Cruise Line has the Barong Juice Bar. There's also a juice bar in the Aurea Spa on MSC Cruises' MSC Divina, at the Vitality Spa Café on Royal Caribbean ships, as well as at the spa-inspired Blu restaurant on Celebrity Cruises' ships. (These are not vegan bars, though, and some smoothies contain dairy.)
The vegan menus and juice bar aren't the first moves Oceania has made toward focusing on wellness cruising. The line recently rolled out Canyon Ranch SpaClub wellness-themed cruises earlier this spring, taking passengers on health-focused excursions in the Mediterranean. While traveling through France, Spain, Italy, and Greece cruisers can choose to visit the Pope’s thermal baths in Civitavecchia, for example, or practice vinyasa yoga in Monte Carlo.
