What's the Disney river cruise with AmaWaterways like?by Fran Golden | August 06, 2016
Shore excursions are another big departure from your typical river cruise: These were designed to keep all ages engaged. Disney sailings are staffed with eight additional guides, who accompanied each excursion to keep the kids engaged, even peeling them away from the group (and giving the adults a break). Like all AmaViola cruises, tours — often more than one a day — are otherwise led by local guides and are included in the price of the cruise.
Some guides on our sailing were better than others in relaying the information in a kid-friendly manner, but the concepts were always designed to be fun. In Bratislava, Slovakia, there was a scavenger hunt of the architectural features of buildings during a walking tour. At Vienna's Schonbrunn Palace, kids tackled a garden maze while adults toured the palace before everyone met up for a "Magic Flute" marionette show. There was also the option to do "The Sound of Music" tour in Salzburg, Austria. (Yes, Kate and I ran through the park where they filmed "Do Re Mi," singing the song.)
