Virgin Voyages Review

Virgin Voyages Review

Virgin Voyages is the new line by Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways. Scheduled to launch in 2020 with the first of three purpose-built ships, the cruise line’s programs are still in development. That said, if the ships are anything like the planes, they’ll be fun and stylish. After the keel was laid for the first ship in November 2017, the line announced that these ships will be for adults only, meaning you'll likely see more millennials (and party-goers) than on most other lines.

What We Love

A Real Party: We expect the poolside parties to be more fun than anything on the open seas today. Velvet ropes? Guests lists? Your guess is as good as ours.

Caribbean Itineraries: Although Virgin is a U.K.-based company, the first sailings will be weeklong itineraries out of Miami. We've heard rumors of St. Bart's on the itineraries, but it's still early to say.

Best Known For

Signature Bold Colors: The planes have cabin stewards in red suits with sexy red heels and red lipstick called “Upper Class Red,” created in partnership with Bare Minerals. Will the ship have similar outfits for crew members?

Thinking Outside the Box: Like recently developed cruise lines Fathom and Viking Ocean Cruises, we don’t expect Virgin to follow the model set by older lines.

Who It's Best For

Young Couples and Friends: This may end up being the coolest cruise line at sea. We’re looking for VIP-feeling clubs with bottle service, a sexy pool scene with curtained cabanas, and plenty of time in St. Barts. (Are you listening, Virgin execs?)

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Bright Young Things and Bright Colors = Too Much of a Good Thing? The planes have lots of neon and purple carpeting, so the look and feel will need to be toned down a bit for a cruise ship. Hopefully, the line will find a way to translate their brand in a way that's playful without being over-the-top.
