M/Y Pegasus

The motor yacht Pegasus sails year-round in the Seychelles for Variety Cruises, a Greek company that specializes in small ships. This 1990-built vessel is certainly small, accommodating just 44 passengers. And with just a few places to spend your time, including a lounge and dining room, a library, and a mini spa inside and a small dining area outside (all renovated in 2016), it is very easy to make friends.

Avid swimmers can take a cooling dip in the ocean from the swimming platform on the back of the ship, and most days there are trips to beaches for swimming, snorkeling, or diving, as well as guided tours.

What We Love

The Prices: The ship's island-hopping itinerary is the affordable way to see the Seychelles, a country famous for beautiful sandy beaches, turquoise seas, and budget-busting hotels.

The Owners' Suites: These two cabins at the front of the ship are accessed via the outside deck. Don’t get too excited – they aren't that big and don’t have balconies, but they are so private that you can feel free to leave the door open and create your own little veranda.

Best Known For

Casual Atmosphere: Cruising doesn’t get much more laid-back than this. The dress code typically consists of shorts and T-shirts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and swimwear for lolling about on the sun deck or dipping into the Indian Ocean.

Who It's Best For

Almost Everyone: It’s hard to imagine anyone who won’t love this cruise — that is, unless you're in search of coddling luxury or have small children (there are no play areas). Otherwise, scuba divers, wildlife lovers, and vacationers of all ages will have a ball.

Travelers Who Are New to Cruising: Even cruise nay-sayers might want to think again, because this isn't your typical cruise. The itinerary involves minimal sailing, the ports aren't overrun by fellow cruisers, and you can get up close to the island's giant tortoises and exotic birds.

Don't Say We Didn't Warn You

Small means Small: Most of the 21 cabins are below the lounge and compact, so travel light (but bear in mind there is limited laundry service).
